Pet Portrait Canvas Print vs Original Painting: What Are You Ordering?

Example of digitally created Oil True Form artwork in Bondel Studio

A canvas print reproduces artwork onto canvas. An original painting has paint physically applied to its surface. Both can depict a pet and both can have a painted appearance, but they are different products. In Bondel Studio, the initial portrait is AI-generated digital artwork, and a canvas order is a print of the selected artwork.

That distinction helps you choose with the right expectations. The word “canvas” describes the surface, while names such as Watercolor or Oil True Form describe a visual style in Studio. Neither term by itself means the finished portrait is an original hand-painted canvas.

Separate the artwork from the surface

When looking at a pet portrait, ask two questions: how was the image created, and how will it be presented? Digital artwork can be printed on canvas. A traditional painting can also be photographed and reproduced as a print. The final surface does not, on its own, tell you which process was used.

What the different terms tell you
Term What it means What it does not establish
Digital artwork An image created or edited as a digital file That every feature has been checked or corrected by a person
Canvas print Artwork reproduced onto canvas That paint was applied by hand to create the image on that canvas
Original painting A work made with paint applied to its surface Any particular refund, revision or shipping policy
Artist refinement in Studio Requested changes to the portrait before printing Automatic artist involvement in every order or conversion into a hand-painted canvas

What a painted style looks like in Studio

A digital image can show the appearance of brushstrokes, washes or painted shadows. Those marks are part of the picture that is printed. They should not be confused with raised strokes of paint physically applied to the canvas.

Choose the appearance you enjoy, then assess the actual preview. Our portrait style guide compares Abstract, Watercolor and Oil True Form without treating one as the right choice for everyone.

What artist refinement changes

In Studio, submit an Artist Refinement Request with your original order when you want changes before printing. Describe the specific detail: for example, an ear shape, a background color or a visible feature that does not match your reference. You review the revised artwork for approval.

Without that request, artist refinement and a separate approval exchange are not automatically included. We produce the version you select. An artist’s refinement of the digital portrait does not change the canvas print into an original painting.

The Studio refund guarantee is conditional on the original-order refinement request and applies until approval of the revised artwork. Read the full refinement and refund guide and returns policy; damage, defects and replacement conditions are separate. Other Bondel product-specific guarantees should be checked on their own product pages.

Check the image and the physical options separately

First review the artwork: likeness, coat markings, eye shape, pose, paws, tail and text. Then review the product options: size, orientation and any frame you have selected. A beautiful image can still be the wrong shape for the wall you have in mind.

Changing the canvas ratio can require a different crop. Stretching a portrait to fill a different shape can distort the pet. Use our canvas size guide, and check that the preview leaves the details you want visible.

A short checklist before you order

  • Confirm whether you are buying a print, digital file or original painting.
  • Check the actual artwork, rather than relying on the style name.
  • Confirm the selected size, orientation and frame options.
  • Include an Artist Refinement Request with the original Studio order if you need changes.
  • Read the product’s refund and replacement conditions and the shipping information.
